page 44 – #cinnamonrolls

Hands up. I’m not a cinnamon roll guy. Well, I should say, I wasn’t a cinnamon roll guy. These were never my go to sweet breakfast treat. Pancakes, waffles, donuts, check check check. But cinnamon rolls weren’t my thing.

Until I made my own. Then dang. All of a sudden, I’m a cinnamon roll guy.

The recipe is very straight forward, the dough is a dream to work with and it is all of 5 hours start to finish (assuming you fed your #sourdoughstarter)

I’ve had a few requests for a cold proof option so you could prep the night before and bake first thing in the morning. I tried that last night / today and the results were just okay. I suppose I could have left them out longer before the fridge or just let them proof near a window (it’s cold here!) but I just gave them one hour after rolling under a hot wet towel and then into the fridge. In the morning I gave them an hour in a warm steamy oven pre bake and they still weren’t great. Just a little too dense. And it still took me 2 hours this morning to prep and bake.

If you’re not up for a lazy weekend morning recipe and want them first thing, I’d just bake them all the way through the night before and reheat in the morning. They store and reheat incredibly well so that’s my advice for folks wanting to go quick in the AM.

PS, don’t be turned off by the thought of #sourdough sweets. Sourdough just means naturally fermented. These aren’t sour at all! They are however, ooey, gooey, buttery, warm, and oh so delicious 🤤
